Hendrix-Murphy Visiting Writer Mark Vanhoenacker will be in Conversation with Hendrix-Murphy Foundation Director Hope Coulter on Wednesday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Reves Recital Hall on Hendrix College campus. A reception and book signing in Trieschmann Gallery will follow the reading, and WordsWorth Books of Little Rock will sell select titles of Vanhoenacker’s work. This event is free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations required.
Vanhoenacker is a non-fiction writer and a British Airways airline pilot. His latest publication, Imagine a City: A Pilot’s Journey Across the Urban World, is a lyric memoir that combines Vanhoenacker’s vast experience in cities around the world as a seasoned traveler and pilot with tales of his boyhood in his New England hometown. Vanhoenacker’s other books include the bestseller Skyfaring: A Journey with a Pilot and How to Land a Plane.
Vanhoenacker is a columnist for the Financial Times and a regular contributor to The New York Times, and has also written pieces for The Atlantic, Wired, and the Los Angeles Times. A Belgian-American, he was born and reared in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and graduated from Amherst College. He received a Masters of Philosophy in History from the University of Cambridge before training to become an airline pilot.
Hope Coulter is a fiction writer, essayist, and poet who directs the Hendrix-Murphy Foundation Programs in Literature and Language at Hendrix College. Awards for her writing include Meringoff Writing Awards in nonfiction and poetry and the Porter Prize for Literary Excellence.
