Hendrix-Murphy sponsors several types of language study and immersion overseas. If the structure of traveling with a Hendrix group led by a professor appeals to you, consider one of our annual Summer Language Programs.
These four-week faculty-led trips partner with institutions in the host country, where students take intensive language classes for half the day and, in their non-class time, take excursions to learn about local history and culture and to practice their language skills outside the classroom. Participants in these trips must meet a certain level of proficiency in the target language and are expected to have completed prerequisite courses, set by each faculty trip leader, in order to be eligible to apply. For further details, contact the trip leader.
For summer 2020 the following programs are being offered:
Twelve Spanish-language students, led by two members of the Spanish faculty, will pursue intensive summer coursework in Spanish language and literature at the Universidad Computense in Spain's. On weekends and in the evening, they will explore literary and cultural sites in Madrid and the surrounding countryside. For more information contact Dr. José Vilahomat.
Eight French-language students, led by a French professor, will attend a four-week summer language program at Tours Langues while living in homestay situations with local families. The experience also includes weekend excursions to learn about the culture and history of the area. For more information contact Dr. C. Jellenik.
